(1) My first class of the day is PHIL 260: Ethical Theory and Practice with Eleanor Gordon-Smith. This class starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 9:50 AM and is 4 units.
The most difficult part of this class for me is understanding the philisophical reading assignments. Some of the papers (like Peter Singers “All Animals Are Equal” or Judith Jarvis Thomson’s “A Defense of Abortion”) were easy to follow, but other readings (such as J.S. Mill’s “Utilitarianism”) were much harder to understand due to the dense wordiness and lack of examples.
(2) My second class of the day is TAC-165: Introduction to C++ Programming with Barrett Koster. This class runs from 12 PM to 12:50 PM and is only 2 units.
I really enjoy the format of this class because Professor Koster typically only lectures for about 20 minutes and gives us the rest of the time in class to work on ‘labs’ which are little assignments. Typically, I finish the labs within the class period, so I don’t have homework (unless he also assigns a HW, which is a more complicated lab assignment).
For me, the hardest part about this class was learning newer material. Since I know a bit of Swift and Python, creating variables and loops was not that hard. However, knowing which #include iostream/time.h/cstdlib statement to add at the top of my file is still a mystery to me. Also, I found c-strings and character arrays challenging.
(3) My third class of the day is ACAD 245: Fundamentals of Product Design with Grant Delgatty. This class goes from 2 PM to 3:50 PM and is also 4 units.
I like this class a lot because of how hands-on and consistent the structure of the projects are. One of my favorite things about this class is how much time he gives us in class to work on our assignments. I also find it fascinating how we can work with a group to ideate different variations to the same object (i.e. I worked on VR goggles and the 6 people in my group all came up with a different shape idea).
The hardest part about this class is definitely the sketches because of how much ideating and creative power it takes. While I don’t mind drawing, I typically max out at 4 illustrations so having to sketch up 10 for each idea is quite difficult for me. However, in retrospect, the class itself is not that hard.
(4) My final class of the day is THTR-421: Public Speaking as Performance: A Course for Non-Actors with Stevie Johnson. This class happens from 5 PM to 6:50 PM and is 2 units (although it happens twice per week).
This class makes me nervous because I don’t particularly like to give speeches, but I really like the professor and the other students in this class make it feel like a welcoming environment.
The most challenging part of this class is facing my nerves when giving a speech and coming up with topics to speak about. In this class, we are tasked to give 3 big speeches: one narrative, one informative, and one persuasive. I have to give the informative speech sometime before we leave for Spring Break so I need to come up with an interesting topic fast.
(5) But this is limiting to visibility transitions, the animate() command opens up the possibility to animate ANY css change over time, not just width and opacity.
